Student Council

  • The Alexandria Area High School Student Council is an organization comprised of approximately 45 students serving in AAHS with representatives from each grade level.

Members spend many hours developing leadership skills, planning and organizing events, fundraisers, and dances throughout the year such as Homecoming, March Madness, prom as well as organizing and performing community service projects. The council usually oversees and plans the majority of dances at AAHS.  In addition, the council raises money and volunteers for different events, individuals, and organizations.

The Alexandria Area High School Student Council holds weekly meetings where the members not only discuss and plan the above items, but also brainstorm and make plans about how to make Alexandria Area High School a better place. One way to make the school a better place is to make all students and staff feel that they are a part of the school community; and the council tries to come up with ways to make this possible.

The Alexandria Area High School Student Council belongs to the Minnesota Association of Student Councils (MASC); representatives attend a fall officer conference held at Arrowwood  and the state convention in April.  At these events, students participate in leadership training, network with other student councils around the state, see parliamentary procedure in action, and get ideas for future projects.  District 206 is active in the Central Division of MASC (CMASC).  .  All council members have the opportunity to attend the two division (CMASC) conferences each year which are usually held in the fall  and early spring (location and date to be determined).  Fall division conferences focus on leadership training, networking, a guest speaker, and round table discussions on specific council topics.  The focus of the state service project (MASC) is also introduced at the fall conference.  Spring division conferences focus on hot topics to discuss and bring to the state conference held later in the spring, leadership training, and state and division nominations and elections for executive positions.
