Alexandria School Board takes next step for relocating transportation maintenance and buildings and grounds department
Monday, January 25, 2021 ALEXANDRIA, Minn.-- At its meeting Monday, January 25, the Alexandria School Board unanimously approved a purchase agreement for $1.1 million for the Productive Alternatives, Inc. building and property located at 107 Donna Ave in Alexandria.
The steel building, constructed in 1972, offers a combination of warehouse (18,000 sq. ft) and office space (5,250 sq. ft) on a 2.29-acre site. The property will be used for the buildings and grounds department, transportation maintenance, as well as district storage. The district’s facility needs are impacted by the following factors:
Pope/Douglas Solid Waste Management (PDSW) is purchasing land from Alexandria Technical & Community College (ATCC) just to the east of the existing PDSW facility in order to move forward with Phase I of the PDSW campus expansion and site renovation.
In turn, Alexandria School District has agreed to sell the current buildings and grounds, food and nutrition services facility, bus mechanic shop space, and transportation garages located at 617 18th Ave - and adjacent to the ATCC campus - to accommodate ATCC’s desire to recoup the land lost to the PDSW expansion.
The three entities - Alexandria School District, ATCC, & PDSW - are working collaboratively and with a community lens to the transfer of properties in order for each organization to meet the long-term needs of the community.
The school district is working through the details of the sale of the 18th Ave property to ATCC, the proceeds of which will offset the Donna Ave acquisition. Look for additional joint communication in the coming weeks.
