Alexandria Area High School senior recognized in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program
September 11, 2020 ALEXANDRIA, Minn.-- Jacob Tiegen, a senior at Alexandria Area High School, has been named a 2021 National Merit Scholar semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Semifinalists must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, and write an essay.
Tiegen is among about 16,000 semifinalists nationwide, representing less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors. The students, who were selected based on scores on a PSAT qualifying test, will compete for some 7,600 scholarships worth more than $30 million, to be awarded next spring.
Merit scholars are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies, without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or religious preference.
