School Board Election 2026
Notice of School Board Election
A school board election will be held in and for Independent School District No. 206 (Alexandria Public Schools) on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 for the purpose of electing four school board members for four-year terms and one school board member for the remaining two years of a four-year term. If more than two candidates file affidavits of candidacy for any specific seat, Minnesota Statutes, Section 205A.03 requires that nominees must be chosen at a primary election.
Notice of Filing Dates for Election to the School Board
The period for filing Affidavits of Candidacy for the office of school board member of Independent School District No. 206 shall begin on May 19, 2026, and shall close at 5:00 p.m. on June 2, 2026. See the Official Notice.
Affidavits of Candidacy are available from the school district clerk, 1410 S. McKay Ave, Ste. 201, Alexandria, MN beginning May 19, 2026. The filing fee for this office is $2.
School Board Election
The filing period for the school board election and special election closed on June 2nd. Eight candidates have filed for the five open seats, broken down as follows:
- Position #2: Maddie Elliott and Nevin Brede
- Position #3: Shawn Reilly
- Position #4: Laura Knudsen, Sarah Moore and Wendy Hoff
- Position #5: Maureen Eigen
- Position #6 (Special Election for the remaining two years of a four-year term): Kyle Momsen
With three candidates filing for Position #4, a primary election will be held on August 11 to determine which two candidates will be placed on the ballot for the November 3 General Election. All candidate for Positions 2, 3, 5 and 6 will be placed on the ballot for the November 3 General Election.
Voting Information
The Primary Election is Tuesday, August 11. The General Election is Tuesday, November 3. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. each day.
