Wellness Committee Initiatives

Based on the need to address concerns related to childhood obesity and maintaining healthy lifestyles, the Food and Nutrition Services Department continues to work toward the following objectives:

• Nutrition Goals
• Wellness Policy

The School District 206 "Child Nutrition Committee" is encouraging students to develop healthy eating habits. One outcome of the committee's work is the availability of healthy beverages and snack choices in the school vending machines.

Family Meal Account Registration & Online Payments

To register and/or access your account, go to Food Service and follow the instructions. (If this is your first time accessing your family meal account, please call 320-762-3315 to obtain your Family Key number.)  Once registered, you will be able to access your account balance, view transactions, make payments, and more.  The credit card fee has been waived.

Using Student Meal Accounts

Each student will be issued a scan card, to be used at meal times.  It is the student's responsibility to have their card with them when dining with us.  Cards for Pre-K through 5 will be kept in the class rooms.  Students in grades 6-12 will receive a lanyard to be able to keep their cards with them.  For students with cell phones, the scan cards can be placed between your phone and phone protector in place of a lanyard for easier carrying.      Please report all lost scan cards to your building office or tech support.  A new lunch ID and scan card will be issued.  A $5 fee will be charged for all lost cards.    

In School Meal Payments

Meal payments are accepted at your child's school and should be placed in the Payment Box located at the school site.  Please include your child's full name and student meal ID in the memo section.   Payments are also accepted at the Food and Nutrition Services office located at 1410 South McKay Ave Suite 201, Alexandria, MN 56308 or remit by mail to PO Box 308. Please make checks payable to ISD 206 Food and Nutrition Services. One check can be written for everyone in the family. Please include either your family number or your child's full name and student meal ID number in the memo section on each check written.

Alexandria Food and Nutrition Services promotes farm-to-school programs, focusing on cooking meals from scratch using local, fresh ingredients, like Minnesota's "Minnesota Thursdays" initiative for seasonal menus.  By connecting local farmers with school kitchens, we help boost nutrition, support local economies, and give students hands-on learning about food, making farm-to-school efforts more feasible.

Meals for all students are FREE for school year 2026-2027.  However, we encourage families who fall within the income guidelines to complete an application. The information on the application is confidential. Funding for some of the district's educational programs is based on the number of our students who are eligible for and receive free or reduced-price meals.  Qualifying families may also receive discounts on school sports/activities and community education fees. The online application is safe, secure, easy, and quick! Log in if you already have an Edutrak (formerly Wordware) account or register to create an account. If you are a first time user, please call the FNS office at 320-762-3315 x4980 for your family key number.  When logged in, select the blue button "Apply for Free/Reduced Benefits".

MN Farm to School

Farm to School - Look What's Local

Breakfast and lunch are FREE for all students.  Second meals, entrees, milk with a home lunch and ala carte are extra.  Adult and guest prices for SY2026-2027 at all schools are $3.85 for breakfast and $5.65 for lunch.

In accordance with federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity.

Program information may be made available in languages other than English. The mission of Food and Nutrition Services is to provide high quality, nutritionally sound food service programs that support student learning. All Alexandria Public Schools serve a nutritious breakfast and lunch every day.  All meals served meet nutritional standards established by federal (U.S. Department of Agriculture) and state (Minnesota Department of Education) regulations.

Do students have to take all food items offered?

The Alexandria Public Schools follow the USDA Offer vs. Serve provision as part of the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program. Offer vs. Serve is a provision that allows students to decline either one or two items/categories they do not intend to eat. The provision is intended to reduce food waste in school nutrition programs. It is important to note that schools are required to offer all students all required food items.

My School Menus

Is lactose-reduced milk available?

A parent/guardian, on behalf of the student, can request lactose-reduced milk. This can be a written request submitted to the food and nutrition services office and does not require a physician’s medical statement. Kitchens order lactose-reduced milk on an as-needed basis.  Note: Substituting juice for milk requires the student must meet the criteria of having a disability that restricts their diet (see special diets below).

Special Diets for students requiring special meals due to disability that affects their diet.

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) allow substitutions on a case-by-case basis for the basic meal requirements if a child is unable to consume the planned meal because of a disability that restricts their diet. Simply request a Special Diet Statement.  Forms are available from the Food & Nutrition Services office or the school nurse’s office. You may also download a copy below.  The form must be completed by an authorized medical authority, such as a licensed Physician, Physician Assistant, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or a Registered Dietitian to allow Food & Nutrition Services to make meal modifications.  NOTE: NSLP and SBP are not required to make substitutions for meals or beverages unless the student has a disability that affects their diet.  If the student does not meet the requirement (disability that restricts their diet) the parent or guardian should make arrangements to provide meals or beverages from home.  For your convenience, juice and bottled water may be purchased from the school cafeteria.
