    The Alexandria School Board acts as a link between the school system and the public. It also sets policy for the school district. The School Board is made up of seven district residents, elected at large to four-year terms. Although school board directors are assigned position numbers, each Board member represents the entire Alexandria School District 206. Term expirations are staggered to ensure that the Board has experienced members serving at any given time. Board elections are held in November in years ending in an even number.
     
    School Board Meetings
     
    Regular meetings of the board are held the third Monday of each month* (*except for September, January & February which are held the fourth Monday) at 7:00 p.m. in the District Office, Oak Conference Room, 1410 South McKay Avenue, Suite 201, Alexandria. All meetings are open to the public.

    The Alexandria School Board took action on the organizational meeting on January 3 to change the Delegations & Individuals portion at regular board meetings.

    The goal of this change is to foster civility and respect at regular board meetings that follow our District Code of Conduct which was not the case in previous meetings.  The board will investigate other means of receiving public input that allow the Board to conduct orderly and efficient meetings with opportunity for school district residents to foster public participation per District Policy 206:

    The school board recognizes the value of participation by the public in deliberations and decisions on school district matters. At the same time, the school board recognizes the importance of conducting orderly and efficient proceedings, with opportunity for expression of all participants' respective views. 

    At this time, for the next two months the Board will take public comment via email at schoolboard@alexschools.org.  Comments should be 400 words or less and will be shared with the full school board prior to the regular board meeting. Meeting dates and comment deadlines appear below:

    Monday, January 24: Regular Board Meeting; comments due by 4pm on January 20.
    Monday, February 28: Regular Board Meeting; comments due by 4pm on February 24.
